CCC Bargaining Update 8/31/18

Your Community College Coalition Bargaining Team continued our work this week, by once again meeting with management for three consecutive days on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

To date, 62 tentative agreements have been reached on 52 articles and 10 appendices or MOUs.

Though we continue to make progress in many areas of our negotiations, your team remains frustrated, and we are insulted with management’s economic proposals.

In addition to the past practice of all higher education employees receiving the same raises we negotiate, the State Board of Community and Technical Colleges is asking for 12.4% increases for faculty and exempt staff compensation over the course of the next two biennia in its budget request to the Legislature.

The community colleges are asking for money to give faculty and exempt staff raises, but are leaving out classified staff – despite the fact that the State Board is fully aware that 40% of classified employees are 25% behind market rate in compensation, members’ average salary is $35,384 per year, and based on family size and income, approximately one third of our members at community colleges qualify for some form of public assistance.

We obviously need management to make meaningful proposals that address our needs for fair raises, so this means additional days of bargaining will need to take place in September. We are asking for your support while we continue to work on a fair and equitable contract.

Remember, we are on the front lines working with students, keeping the lights on and the water running, the rooms clean, the technology operating, the students safe, the financial aid processed, classrooms prepped for classes, the library a great place for research and studying, and the grounds beautiful.

Call the Governor now at 1-360-902-4111 and ask him to support a fair contract for Community College state workers.
