CCS Area Reports

Community Colleges of Spokane

CCS 8/2018

We met on August 10 to discuss multiple trades issues.  Members at CCS have decided they’d like to have a mix of people on the DTB team whenever possible.  The hope is that getting to know the issues outside their own specialty area will help them support each other.

CCS 7/2018

We have had a lot going on out at CCS.  The help and dedication of Brenda Martinsen, Rick Halverson, Matt Everett, Barry Oglun, and other members out there makes all the difference.  We are working issues ranging from contracting out issues.  Matt, Barry and Rick got BU work back in the BU at our last meeting, good Job!

CCS 6/2018

The CCS financial DTB meeting happened.  Your team got CCS to agree to redo the layoff notices, giving proper job openings to those affected by the reorgainzation.  Also, at a DTB held on 4/25 CCS regarding contracting out work, in part, due to the need for a crane to be brought, lead to CCS agreeing to discuss implementation of a M.O.U settlement regarding training for crane operation. More to come!

CCS 5/2018

CCS financial reorganization DTB was June 1st.  More details will be forthcoming on that.  We also met over a past agreement regarding crain/boom truck training.  It was decided that we weren’t going to “push” for it now, however we did not give up any rights, so we will revisit in the future as needed.

CCS 4/16/18

CCS financial is going through a reorganizing of the department, there is a DTB set for June.  Also, at a DTB held on 4/25 CCS regarding contracting out work, in part, due to the need for a crane to be brought, lead to CCS agreeing to discuss implementation of a M.O.U settlement regarding training for crane operation. More to come!

CCS 4/16/18

Your team met with CCS on March 1st.  We went over the car charging stations, and agreed to only the installation of three charging stations, and that any further work, outside the scope of the notice would still need to be bargained.  Your team worked hard to ensure the work of the unit was not compromised.  There are a lot of other DTB’s going on at CCS, watch this space!!

CCS 2/19/18

We have an open DTB regarding the installation of windows, the college is getting us more information and we will meet with them soon. Also, the Head Start facility has provided notice indicating they signed a lease for a new Head Start location.  You may recall that CCS had to close a Head Start facility due to hazardous building conditions.  I am working with members to decide our next steps.  We have an additional DTB’s that are being scheduled, so once those are completed we will have more updates.  We have a DTB scheduled for March 1.  There will be more updates to come.

CCS 12/19/17

The follow-up to the three DTB’s from last week of November is this:

We are met over the elimination of Custodial Supervisor positions.

  • The college is going to hire five new line staff to help offset the impacts of not having enough people to do the work.
  • The contracting-out window issue is still in negotiations.  The team asked the college to provide information on how this work is different from other exterior window projects that the BU as done in the past.
  • The Head Start team sat down with management and went over concerns about how broad the information was and expressed concerns about members being able to understand what provisions apply to them.
  • Head Start agreed to add definitions to the laws, WACs and RCWs, to better help members understand what applies to their work.

Thanks to Theresa Sullivan, Marlene Hagerman, and Rick Halverson for their tireless efforts to make their work places fair and create a stronger union.
